Have you ever wondered how England won so many battles? Have you ever wanted to know how a knight really fought on the battlefield?

Schola Gladiatoria VII welcomes one and all to participate in the learning and application of Historical European martial arts.

Instructor Neil Johnson 31, Served five years in the 1st Battalion Coldstream Guards before moving to London and studying Aikido and Kickboxing. From there he found European martial arts gave him the mixture of layered defence and attack he wanted from an effective fighting system.

Primarily focussing on the art of Dagger fighting and Abrazare or wrestling(including strikes with the hands, feet and head, dislocations, breaks and throws).

THIS IS NOT RE-ENACTMENT, The techniques used are desgined to fight multiple opponants on the battlefield and incapacitate each person as quickly as possible.

Equipment needed is minimal, sturdy comfortable clothing e.g. cargo pants/jogging bottoms, tshirt and long sleeved sweat top. Groin protection, safety glasses(the kind you had in science at school) and if required a gumshield and additional arm pads. Any sports shops sell these items and all can be bought for under ten pounds.

With the increase in knife crime, these techniques can be easily applied to modern attacks.

As well as medieval martial arts, there will be guest lessons covering Bowie knife fighting, Fairbairn-Sykes dagger and unarmed techniques, Bartitsu the martial art of Sherlock Holmes, and Cunnighams walking stick methods of gentlemanly fighting.Walking sticks and staves being one remaining legal carry option for the discerning lady or Gent going about their daily business.
